A Special Antique & Old cuts

A Special Antique & Old cuts

Here is our definitive list of the diamond cuts that were popular throughout the early 1900’s. Most of these vintage diamond cuts are still very popular. Some of the diamond cuts have since waned in popularity.
Here is the list of the most common vintage and antique diamonds cuts:
  • Antique Cushion Cut Diamond
  • Old European Cut Diamond
  • Old Mine Cut Diamond
  • Rose Cut Diamond
  • Asscher Cut Diamond

This revered diamond cut goes by several different names. Most of the names will vary depending on the cut of the diamond. This antique diamond is also known as the Old Mine Cushion Cut, Antique Cushion Cut, High-dome Cushion Cut or Vintage Cushion Cut.
The Antique Cushion Cut is one of the most recognizable diamonds in the vintage engagement ring world. Most of the famous jewelry of the previous century features a cushion cut diamonds.
Although the antique cushion cut diamond may look like the modern cushion cut from afar, it is actually very different in many ways. Here is a list of the common differences between the antique cushion cut diamond and the modern cushion cut:
  • The antique cushion cut will always feature a bold culet at the very bottom of the diamond
  • Most antique cushion cuts will have a very tall crown (especially the older old-mine cushions)
  • A small table is a very easily distinguishing aspect of the antique cushion cut
  • The facets on the pavilion of an old-mine cushion will be more spread apart and less splintered than the modern cushion cut

OLD EUROPEAN CUT DIAMOND

The old European cut diamond may not be as famous as the cushion cut diamond, but it without a doubt the most popular antique diamond in the market. The old European cut diamond goes by many names. Among the names are the old-mine round cut, old-euro cut, antique round cut, antique old European cut, and old-mine brilliant.
The Old European Cut diamond is the progression between the antique old-mine cut diamond and the transitional cut diamond. The Old European cut diamond ultimately led to today’s modern brilliant cut diamond.
Characteristics of the Old European Cut Diamond:
  • The Old European will always contain a noticeable culet. The size of the culet may vary but a genuine old Euro will always have a culet that is detectable with a loop.
  • Most Old European Cut Diamonds will have a small table and a high crown
  • Old European Cut Diamonds will not usually be perfectly round. Antique diamonds were cut by hand and so the perimeter will not be as accurately shaped as a modern diamond.
  • The girdle of the old-euro will be frost-like instead of the featuring the smooth polish of a modern diamond’s girdle.

This is a difficult diamond to define because technically speaking all antique diamonds in the cushion-cut and round-cut families also fall under the umbrella of the old mine cut diamond.
For clarity, most jewelers will call antique diamonds with uneven shapes as old-miners. Anything with a more distinct shape (example: old Euro or antique cushion), although technically also an old-mine cut, will follow its more specific name.
Genuine old mine cut diamonds are very rare. Most of the old-miners from the late 1800’s or early 1900’s were lost with time or destroyed by modern jewelers.

ROSE CUT DIAMOND

The rose cut diamond was a very popular diamond during the 1800s. Once the Old European cut diamond began to become popular, the rose cut diamond faded into the background. Only very recently (2015 or so), the rose cut had a massive comeback and is now trending strongly among vintage enthusiasts.
The rose cut doesn’t have a pavilion and even its crown doesn’t have a table but is rather made-up of triangular facets that create its distinctive shape. Beneath the crown of the rose cut is a girdle. Antique rose cuts won’t have a smooth and polished girdle but will rather show a frosty (or matte-like) girdle. The back of the rose cut is smooth and transparent.

The Asscher Cut diamond was the original patent of the famous diamond-cutting Asscher Family. This cut has remains still fascinating so many decades later. Like the antique cushion cut, many of the most important rings in the past 100 years have showcased Asscher cut diamonds.
Technically speaking, an Asscher Cut diamond is a square-shape emerald cut. Antique Asscher cut diamonds have a few characteristics that separate them from emerald-cuts and modern Asscher-cuts:
  • Antique Asscher cuts will have a very prominent culet a the very bottom
  • The corners of antique Asscher cut diamonds will usually be a lot more prominent than modern Asscher cuts. Many antique Asscher cuts will appear almost octagonal.
  • Modern Asscher cuts will have a table percentage of approximately 65% while antique Asscher cuts will be under 55%
  • The crown of antique Asscher cur diamonds will usually be high and built-up

     • ANTIQUE EMERALD CUT DIAMOND

The Emerald Cut diamond is one of the most famous step-cut diamonds. This cut, famous for its flashes of brilliance, still mesmerizes with very little change to the dimensions.

Finding antique emerald-cut diamonds is very challenging. Most collectors will only have a few genuine antique emerald-cut diamond rings.
The characteristics of the antique emerald cut diamond are very similar to the notable features of the antique Asscher cut diamond. The primary difference between the two cuts will be the dimensions of the actual stone. The antique emerald cut diamond is a rectangle in shape while the Asscher cut is more square.

You will always deal with us or our colleagues and you will always get an exact product what you were looking for. We are very passionate about making jewelry and a bit of a perfectionist.

We believe in that jewelry at any price point should be made with the highest quality and our work reflects that.

We will always give you the best quality at any price point. In this blog we discuss about moissanite ring jewelry. That is automatically tell you our capacity of supply to match your demand.
A ring is a round band, usually of metal, worn as ornamental Jewelry. The term "ring" by itself always denotes the finger ring, but when worn as an ornament elsewhere, the body part is always specified, e.g. earrings, neck rings, arm rings, and toe rings.

Rings always fit snugly around or in the part of the body they ornament, so bands worn loosely, like a bracelet, are not rings.

Rings may be made of almost any hard material: wood, bone, stone, metal, glass, gemstone or plastic. They may be set with gemstones
(Diamond, ruby, sapphire or emerald) or with other types of stone or glass.
Here we are presenting   about the true handmade story of the Moissanite jewelry. That is very interesting and informational process of making a jewelry from bottom level to top level.  Which means to process is showing you with the first step to last step.

First of all new piece of art is created in total darkness, in an inner world where imagination and creativity meet.

After it is done, we believe that each creation is a master piece and deserve to be taken care of only by skilled jewelers. Using tools that are manually controlled we transform gold and gemstones into wearable works of art. Each piece of jewelry is born from the inspiration of our designers. Like any great work of art, the journey of creation varies from piece to piece.

·        Wax craving process:-

After it is gone for the wax craving process which is Wax model makers transform a simple block of wax into a spectacular jewelry model that will later be casted in plaster and gold. The wax is heated until it becomes liquid and then is molded mostly around the gemstone. Using only hand tools like blades and files the wax artisan can shave and carve the wax until the desired shape of the wax takes form.

The wax carving is then imbedded in a metal mold which will be filled with plaster and left to harden. The mold containing the hardened plaster is heated in an oven at extreme temperatures to burn away any wax traces. If the artisan is satisfied with the results of the plaster model, it will be transformed into a gold model in the course of the jewelry casting process.

·        Gold casting process:-

After finishing the wax craving process it is ready for gold casing that is the plaster model which has been completed in the wax carving process will now be casted with gold. Since the time that man discovered the ability to melt metals, jewelry artisans have been pouring molten gold into molds shaped in stone and plaster. This process varies respectively by the gold components and purity. Each has a different temperature cycles and processes that are unique to the metal component alloy. The casted gold model will be soldered and welded and later on will be set with a gemstone.

·        Welding:-

When gold casting is finished the raw product is necessary to welding.  so it is taken for welding which means

Welding Jewelry is a stage where metal of equal property is fused to each other with extreme temperature applied to an accurate area in order to create a durable and wearable piece of jewelry. Welding is done primarily by torch. Once the pieces are assembled and welded, the artisan will clean up any telltale signs of the welding, using hand held tools and bathing the item in acid to remove any fire scale on the metal. The next steps will be soldering (if needed), stone setting and a jewelry polishing station to become glistening treasures.

·        Soldiering:-

Almost every piece of fine gold jewelry we make is soldered due to its complex and unique designs. Using a smaller and thinner torch, soldering is a process which allows the artisan to gently attach smaller gold segments in order to create a durable & beautiful piece of art. Accuracy and steady hands are a must when using tweezers, while heating it to the molten point without melting or damaging the areas to which it will be bonded.

·        Diamond and gemstone setting:-

As one of the last stages of the jewelry making process, we tend to take it for granted that all of our jewelry twinkle and sparkle and all gems and diamonds magically stay in their position. Stone setters are confronted with the challenge of securing diamonds and gemstones in the least invasive way, by using the minimum amount of necessary materials to secure the gem in place, yet providing maximum durability is increasing day by day with adopting new updated technology.

 Polishing:-

Polishing is the last thing we do before we hand it to our quality control experts. Rotary wheels and soft muslin are the gentle tools that will enhance the gold luster. Once the desired polish is achieved textures and other finishes like our satin finish gold can be applied to enhance the design and their uniqueness.

Summary:-

During the past years the jewelry world has undergone a substantial technological revolution introducing innovative 3D graphic computer programs. The advanced CAD (computer & design) program enables jewelry professionals to design and customize each piece of jewelry on the computer. The design can be rotated and examined from every angle and then printed by a state of the art 3D printer, to produce a perfect wax model which will then continue to be casted with gold, welded and set with gemstones.

We at golden bird jewels believe in providing work places for our talented craftsmen and craftswomen. Advanced technology is therefore integrated in the design process together with the more traditional and personal touch.
